The South Auckland Football Centres Academy (SAFCA) has scored a win for vulnerable mothers and their babies in the developing world, at a recent street-soccer competition.

SAFCA’s head of football, Matthew Jorgensen says, the academy is a strong supporter of TEAR Fund’s work, and they raised $150 for TEAR Fund’s Choose Life projects, which are helping mothers through pregnancy and childbirth, and helping their babies survive. The competition was held at SAFCA’s new base in Waitakere, which was opened recently in association with Liberty Christian Centre.

“We just think the Choose Life projects are fantastic and would like to support them more and do whatever we can to raise awareness of the issue of maternal and child mortality in the developing world. It was ironic that our four primary bib colours for training happened to be orange, blue, green and yellow, which matches the Choose Life brand logo.” Matthew says the day was an amazing success, and the feedback has been exemplary. “We want to provide monthly support for this project and encourage as many as possible to get behind this cause.
