How to talk about sponsorship

1. Start with prayer
Ask God to guide you to the right person... and to guide that person to a child.
2. Your ask could change a life
This step is surprisingly simple, you can ‘ASK’ on the phone, via text, or over social media with the graphics you can download, you can ask during a small group time or set up a special invitation to a meal or coffee. If you want to reach more people perhaps you could ask your pastor if you can share during a service. You can lead into the question by saying something like this:
“I’m taking part in an awesome challenge to help children all over the world! Can I share with you what child sponsorship means to me?”
3.Share your heart. An easy way to do this is to talk about:
• Your own experience with Tearfund.
• The child you sponsor
• How YOU have been changed by child sponsorship—whether it’s your perspective that’s been transformed or your life!
4. Answer their questions
Your friend may have questions about sponsorship and how it works. Check out this page which has all the answers to our most commonly asked questions!

5. Tell your friend how to sponsor a child
Use any device to show them the child’s profile you’ve been sent, or scroll together through the faces of children waiting to be sponsored on our website and read about them.
You can do that at tearfund.org.nz/sponsor
When you feel the conversation has reached its end, don’t be afraid to use these direct words: “Would you like to sponsor today?” Whether you are with one person or a small group, pause, and give them time to respond to what you’ve asked. If they’re unsure, that’s okay! Offer to send them a short video or a blog to read. Sometimes, all someone needs is a little time to think and pray about it.
