Hundreds of thousands of displaced people need help as the conflict in Lebanon and Gaza continues.

  The death toll in this humanitarian crisis is mounting as communities are destroyed, hospitals and homes are damaged, food and water run out, and families flee their homes in search of safety.

Tearfund is responding through local Christian partners to meet the urgent needs of people impacted by the brutal conflict. In Lebanon, our partner is helping to provide healthcare, including mental health services, to those who have been displaced and traumatised by the hostilities. In Gaza, our other partner remains the only fully functioning hospital in the north, providing vital medical assistance to the sick and wounded.

What is happening and how are people affected?

  • In Lebanon, more than one million people have been displaced by the conflict. Despite the good news that a ceasefire has been announced between Israel and Lebanon, the need remains, as people have been advised not to return to their homes in Southern Lebanon.
     
  • Thousands of people have lost their lives, and many more are injured.
     
  • Over the last year an estimated 9 out of 10 people, a total of 1.9million people, are displaced in Gaza with limited access to food, water and shelter. 
     
  • The healthcare system faces unprecedented challenges. An estimated 84% of the health facilities in Gaza have been damaged or destroyed, and those operating, are struggling to function with shortages in essential medicines, basic equipment, electricity and staff. Our partner is the only hospital fully functioning in the north of Gaza.

The Emergency Alliance raises funds on behalf of eight Kiwi agencies to respond to various humanitarian crises in the world - all while giving Kiwis a simple and effective way to support people affected by disasters and conflicts.
